The King Case

•March 3, 2010 • 1 Comment

As you may or may not know last thursday, February 27th, Chelsea King went missing after going out for a run. The Police spent the last week searching San Diego for her and even arrested  John Albert Gardner III, a registered sex offender who is believed to have raped Chelsea King. Today, March 3rd, police believe they have found the body of Chelsea King buried in a park about 10 feet from the shoreline of Lake Hodges. The body has not yet been positively identified as Chelsea King, but the police have alerted her parents. You can read an article of her disappearance here and you can read the latest article here.

After I had finished reading this article all I could think of, was how the parents must have felt this past wondering what happened to their daughter. I also hoped that this wasn’t the body of Chelsea King and that she was in fact alive somewhere else. I then started to wonder why a registered sex offender was just allowed to do what he wanted and harm another person. I feel the government should have stricter laws on sex offenders, to protect the good law-abiding citizens. My question for you today is: What do you think the government should do to protect its citizens from become the victim of a registered sex offender?

Toyota’s not alone

•March 3, 2010 • Leave a Comment

as you may have heard Toyota’s cars have been having problems with their gas pedals sticking, leading to scary situations. well, Toyota appears to not be the only company whose cars are having a problem. a statement  released by GM, General Motors, stated they were recalling 1.3 million Chevrolet and Pontiac compact cars sold in the United States, Canada, and Mexico to fix power steering motors.the announcment came after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into 905,000 of the models on Jan. 27 after getting 1,100 complaints that the cars lost their power steering assist. The complaints included 14 crashes and one injury. read more about this article here.

this is an important problem in the U.S., as a nation whose citizens use cars almost everyday, the more companies who reveal that they are having car problems it could lead to many injuries and even some fatalities. on the brighter side, GM’s cars can still be driven safely until the parts arrive, where as Toyota’s cars are at a higher risk of being driven without their problem being fixed. personal I use my car at a minimum of 5 days a week to get to and from school and also to get around to friends houses and to drive my sister. while I don’t drive a car from Toyota or GM if this trend of car companies continues I may have a problem with how i go about my daily life. my question for you today is: Why don’t car companies spend more time testing their cars to catch these kinds of problems before they happen?

In the Blink of an Eye…

On friday February 12th Georgian luger, Nodar Kumaritashvili 21, was on one of his pratice runs when tragedy struck. As he was rounding a turn his sled caught the edge of the track and flung him off. He hit a pole that was holding the roof up, at an estimated 90 miles per hour. Emergency crews rushed to his side and attempted to help him. The IOC said Kumaritashvili was pronounced dead at a trauma center in Whistler. Within an hour of the horrible crash a member of each team was told the grim news. ”His competitive spirit and dedication to sports excellence will be remembered and honored during the games,” Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper said. This would have been Kumaritashvili’s first Olympics. He competed in five World Cup races this season, finishing 44th in the world standings. Read the full article here.

When I first saw this news I was at Fire and Ice waiting for my food to be cooked. There was no volume or sub-titles so I couldn’t understand what was going on completely. To be honesty, I thought they were just showing some of the dangers of being a luger. It wasn’t until I got home that I finally learned what had happend. I recoded the stuff before the Olympic opening Cerimony. I went to watch it, and then learned that a Georgian luger had hit a pole at extreamly high speed. I watched in horror at the images and video that followed. What was supposed to be a day filled with joy and celebration, was now drenched in saddness. When the cerimony had started i wahted to see what the Georgian team would do to honer their fallen teamate. The Gerogian team walked through the stadium with black armbands on thier right arms, and and black line on the top of thier flag. When they walked in I saw one of the greatest signs of respect I have seen in a while, the entire stadium sood up and clapped until the Georgian team had left the stadium. My question for my readers this time is: If one dies doing what they love is their death a waste? I personally have no answer for this.

EXTREAME WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES BEYOND THIS POINT!

Videos of the Crash seem to have been taken down.

Steroids Claims Another

•January 19, 2010 • 3 Comments

On January 11th retiered pro baseball player Mark McGwire admited to taking steriods during his career. during his announcement he called himself stupid and that he wished he had never taken them. “For the MLB Network, McGwire’s hourlong confessional was the moon landing crossed with a terrorist attack.”- slate.com. The news had a special report and an intro to go with it. He cried when talking about his struggles with injuries, about the difficulty of confessing to his family. When it came to his athletic legacy, however, McGwire couldn’t bear to cast aspersions on himself. It sort of boggles my mind when you hear people trying to discredit someone who’s had success,” he told Sports Illustrated.

Regardless of what McGwire said yesterday or will say tomorrow, his performance in front of Congress five years ago will leave the longer impression. Why didn’t Big Mac fess up when he still had a chance to salvage his reputation and dignity? On Monday, McGwire said he wanted desperately to spill it all, but he clammed up at the urging of his lawyers, who told him he could be prosecuted if he admitted to using steroids. McGwire is talking now because he’s set to become the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals, his first public role since those congressional hearings. In making an apology, McGwire hoped he’d be left alone to do his job.”I wish I never played in that era,” he told Costas,  “If we had testing when I was playing, you and I wouldn’t be having this conversation today.”

You can read more here.

I’m writing this article a little over a week later, and I personally think this article is to harsh on McGwire. im not saying i support steroids, but atleast he admited to using them. Sure his admition came years after he did it, but it’s not easy to admit to something like that. What he did was wrong, but by comming clean about it was the right thing to do. Yesterday, Monday, January 18th, Albert Pujols said, “I told him I’m proud of him for admitting what he used, everybody makes mistakes.” I agree with Pujols, thingas happen but the fact that McGwire came out about his use of steroids was a good desicion no matter how hard it was for McGwire to admit it.

My question for you this time is, what are your thoughts on Mark McGwire’s admition to steroids?

Water World

A recent discovery by the  Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, has found a planet completely coverd by water. Planet GJ 1214b was found in the constellation Ophiuchus. Planet GJ 1214 is 2.7 times the size of Earth and 6.6 times as massive, the new planet takes 38 hours to circle a dim red star and is about 40 light years away. while the discovery of water was huge, the planet was just outside the inhabital zone. The surface is 400-degrees Fahrenheit on the ocean surface and mostlikely coverd by steam. Even though life can’t survive on this planet, astronomers are now extreamly hopful that they will be able to find life on another planet. If you would like to read the full article, Click Here.

I was interested in this article because for a while I’ve been interested in astronomy and outerspace. I belive this is a huge discovery, because it shows that there are planets out there with huge amounts of water, and proves it is very possible that life supporting planets are out there. The discoveries of planets with water is huge, it’s a known fact that water is needed to support life. the reason we looked for water on the moon was to make it easier to have a moon base. I personaly think there is life out there maybe not as inteligent as the aliens in movies, and books and all the other thinks, but life nonethe less. So with that said let me finish this blog post, by asking you if you believe the there is life out there, and if you think it will be inteligent.

Milton Firefighter is a Victim of Road Rage.

•December 14, 2009 • 2 Comments

Joseph Fasano, 30, a Milton firefighter was shot a white man who fled in a gray or silver sports car. Fasano was driving with his girlfriend when he happened to get behind a driver who repeatedly hit the brakes, forcing Fasano to slow down. the two drivers got out of their cars and exchanged words, and that’s when the suspect pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and shot Fasano in the abdomen. Fasano was rushed to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police said yesterday that Fasano’s condition was critical, but the hospital would not comment on his condition. Fasano’s girlfriend, who was in the car and witnessed the shooting called 911. The suspect remains at large. To read the whole article click here.

i decided to write about this article as more of a warning than anything else.  while it may seem like a good idea to get out of your car and talk to someone who is being reckless on the road, it may be the dumbest thing someone can do. someone with road rage, may just be angry and talking could work, but it’s also possible that they are just crazy, and crazy people can be very dangerous. one more thing when you’re in a car you are protected, once you step out of the car it’s much easier to hurt you. so for your own safety, if something like this happens to you DO NOT confront the person, if it upsets you that much then go home and shout, scream, punch a wall, do whatever, but don’t get out and talk to them.

The Swine Flu is comming, the Swine Flu is comming!

•November 12, 2009 • 1 Comment

Thursday morning an e-mail was received announcing the arrival of 63,500 doses of the swine flu vaccine. Never before has the drug and health association tried to brew so many doses of a critical drug in such a short amount of time. they are trying to brew more than 250 million doses of the swine flu vaccine nationally. the drug and health association is working as efficiently as they can to meet the end of year deadline. doctors tried to make sure that of the people receiving the vaccine at least 7% of them were kids age 3 or under. with 5000 kids in need of vaccine only about 12% will be able to receive the vaccine. Massachusetts is supposed to get 3.7 million doses of the swine flu vaccine in total, and is expected to get 2 million of those doses by the middle of december. read the full article here

over the past year swine flu has become a huge concern of people living in the United states. over the country when people learn that some of the coveted swine flu vaccine is coming to an area near them, they line up outside hours before the vaccinations will be given out, just to ensure that they will receive it. many are worried that the drug and health association will be unable to get all the doses of the swine flu vaccine in time. i personally have not yet received the swine flu vaccine, but i intend to receive it, hopefully sooner rather than later. i would like to know, do you think the drug and health association can get all the doses of swine flu vaccine that are need out to the public soon enough to end the panic? also do you intend on getting the vaccine, or have you already gotten it?
